Decorated Sugar Cookies

I have avoided making cut out cookies for years.  They always tear up when I try to transfer them from the cutting board to the baking sheet.  Consequently, I always make the kind you form into a roll and slice.  But a couple of years ago I bought some Wilton snowflake cookie cutters.  I hadn't used them until I saw a sugar cookie recipe on a favorite blog, Decor and the Dog.  Michelle, the author of Decor and the Dog said they are the best sugar cookies and challenged readers to give them a try.  I thought about the snowflake cookie cutters and the sugar pearls sitting on my baking shelf and had to accept the challenge.

The recipe is a basic sugar cookie recipe.  It made 64 cookies, not including the three we ate and the one I dropped on the floor.  Check out Decor and the Dog for lots of cool stuff including this recipe for dynamite sugar cookies here:

I was skeptical that these snowflakes would come out of the cookie cutter in one piece, but every single one came out perfectly.

I happened on this Renolds Wrap Non-Stick Pan Lining Paper.  It is foil on one side and non-stick parchment paper on the other.  Be sure to wrap it around the edges of your baking pan to anchor it, otherwise, it will curl and mess up your cookie shapes.  This made clean up a snap and kept the cookies from burning on the bottoms.
I learned this on the first pan and corrected the problem on the rest.

Nothing left to do but make a cuppa and enjoy another cookie.
I kinda went nuts with the colored sugar.....

Merry Christmas!
